"A gay landmark celebrating its 35th anniversary, Hula's Bar & Lei Stand has hosted famous guests like Elton John and Dolly Parton. This gay bar has been a Waikiki mainstay since 1974. By day,... practice yoga or take in the view of Diamond Head while munching on a kālua pork quesadilla. By night, mingle with the friendly crowd and get down on the dance floor. On our last visit, the well-sculpted bartenders were serving up cold drinks shirtless. Daily, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., 134 Kapahulu Blvd., second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel. 923-0669, hulas.com." As you toss your hair along with the queens in the tropical breeze, you'll see panoramic Diamond Head Crater and Queen's Surf Beach, from the 65-foot expanse of open windows. Come to Hula's with your girlfriends and forget about (straight) men! Prepare to be friendly with the locals and partake drag shows, DJ events, pool tournaments, and weekly Saturday booze cruises, all sans the usual man drama. The mostly-male, mostly-shirtless (and gorgeous) waiters welcome everyone, even when the place is packed, as it often is. They even want tourists, so they set up Internet stations so visitors can check email while they sip fruity cocktails and listen to house music. Locals, tourists, gays and straights give Hula’s high marks for the nightly drink specials, hot music and people-watching from the second-floor."
